The Global Tea Initiative for the Study of Tea Culture and Science holds one colloquium annually on a broad theme designed to engage topics on tea culture and society, science and health, and new industry trends. Colloquium speakers are leading experts from academia and industry from around the world. Past keynote speakers include the President of the European Speciality Tea Association, Nigel Melican, and New York Times bestselling novelist Lisa See.
Save the Date for the Global Tea Institute's 12th Annual Colloquium on Where Ritual Meets Research: Tea Health and Wellness. The 2027 colloquium will be held on Thursday, January 28 at the UC Davis Conference Center from 9am to 5pm. Admission is free. The speakers will be announced this summer.

The Global Tea Institute for the Study of Tea Culture and Science (GTI) globaltea.ucdavis.edu, at the University of California, Davis, seeks proposals for 30-minute presentations for its Twelfth Annual Colloquium, Where Ritual Meets Research: Tea Health and Wellness.
The Global Tea Institute Colloquia enable networking opportunities between researchers in science, the humanities and the social sciences, those engaged in the food and beverage industry and community members, thus providing a vibrant atmosphere for collaboration and learning across disciplines. They regularly draw audiences of about 400–600 people from across campus, the region, the US, and the world. Presentations should reflect specialized knowledge while remaining accessible to a broad audience.
Submission Deadline for Proposals: August 31, 2026
Papers will also be considered for inclusion in a peer-reviewed anthology in the Global Tea Institute’s book series Global Tea Studies (Brill).
Submissions should consist of a proposal of 300 words or less, and a CV. Please include your job/academic affiliation and job title (if any) in your proposal. Including “GTI #12 proposal submission” in the subject line, please send submissions to: [email protected]
Notification of acceptance of papers will be sent out around October 1, 2026.
For the selected papers, the Global Tea Institute will cover travel costs of the speakers (applying UC Davis maximums) including lodging (up to 2 nights domestic, 3 nights international travel) at the UCD campus Hyatt, and an honorarium.
